SEW Excited!

Last week I crossed off a New Year's Resolution item (my only one!) -- or at least started to, anyway -- by taking a formal sewing class at JoAnn's fabric store.  Really, it probaby was not necessary for me to take a formal class, given all the various women in my life (mothers, aunts, cousins, friends) who know how to sew so well. But it was also a fantastic excuse to hang out with my fabulous friend Laura, with whom I have SO much in common and have so much fun! We managed to get a 50% off coupon for the class, thus it was only $17.50 for 2.5 hours of guided instruction.  We had a great time, and even met some new people!   So now that I can thread a machine, do some basic stitches, and sew some pretty straight lines, it's like the world is my oyster.  I could seriously go broke buying fabric and spend all day dreaming about everything I want to make.  (I'm collecting ideas and tutorials on Pinterest here.)

My first project is some triangle-flag bunting for Tess's first birthday party, which entails cutting out probably 100 fabric triangles and then sewing the world's longest straight line by attaching the flags to yards and yards of ribbon.  Boring!  But necessary, and good practice. I've also got the supplies to make some ADORABLE baby washcloths for my girl -- that's the one I'm more excited about.

Until further notice, I am asking for only JoAnn's gift cards for all birthdays and gift-giving holidays!

P.S....When did patterns start featuring hot guys using a sewing machine?
Talk about updated marketing!  I thought this guy looked kinda like Chad!
